What is Phytoplankton
Derived from the Greek words phyto (plant) and plankton (made to wander or drift), phytoplankton are microscopic organisms that live in watery environments, both salty and fresh.
Like land plants, phytoplankton have chlorophyll to capture sunlight, and they use photosynthesis to turn it into chemical energy. They consume carbon dioxide, and release oxygen. All phytoplankton photosynthesize, but some get additional energy by consuming other organisms.
Phytoplankton are the foundation of the aquatic food web, the primary producers, feeding everything from microscopic, animal-like zooplankton to multi-ton whales. Small fish and invertebrates also graze on the plant-like organisms, and then those smaller animals are eaten by bigger ones.
Phytoplankton are the primary producer of the oxygen we breathe, and the number one recycler of CO2.

Oxidative Stress
Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body, leading to organ and tissue damage and the development of various diseases. Adopting a healthy lifestyle can help maintain this balance.
Free radicals are molecules with an uneven number of electrons, making them highly reactive and capable of initiating chain chemical reactions in the body known as oxidation. These reactions can have both beneficial and harmful effects.
Antioxidants, on the other hand, are molecules that can donate electrons to free radicals without becoming unstable themselves. This process stabilizes the free radicals, reducing their reactivity.
